Thinking of a Career in Emergency Management?
- BY Nicole Pelette
Personal Assistant and Business Support Co-ordinator â Humanitarian Directorate
Oxfam is part of a global movement for change, working together to end poverty and injustice. We work directly with communities and we seek to influence the powerful to ensure that poor people can improve their lives and livelihoods and have a say in decisions that affect them. Our humanitarian, development and campaigning projects change lives around the world.
You will be at the heart of a team that leads Oxfam's humanitarian work, responding to emergencies worldwide.
In this demanding and exciting role, youâÂÂll provide support to the Humanitarian Director, manage one other administrator and work with other senior managers within the department to ensure work progresses and actions and commitments are followed up. As an experienced P.A. you will be able to run busy diaries and inboxes, arrange travel and provide concise briefings. Intuitive and able to manage upwards, you will need to keep up to date with whatâÂÂs going on in the team, Oxfam and externally, anticipating problems and the conflicting demands that the Humanitarian Director will face.
In addition you will provide support with managing information management systems for the department and undertake special research projects to support briefings and presentations on behalf of the department.
What weâÂÂre looking for
WeâÂÂre looking for an experienced PA who has worked at Director level. Someone who may have worked in the sector before but who is, above all, passionate about making a difference. YouâÂÂll be highly flexible with outstanding organisational skills, a keen eye for detail and the ability to juggle the demands of the team heads effectively. A sharp mind, great relationship development skills and a cool head under pressure will all stand you in good stead. YouâÂÂll also need to understand how large-scale organisations operate and handle everything you do with diplomacy and sensitivity. Experience of supporting business operations (budget and systems and project management) would also be desirable.
