The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. FAO helps developing countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture including livestock, forestry, and fisheries practices, ensuring good nutrition and food security for all. Upon request from the Government of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, the FAO has provided technical assistance for the execution of the project “Immediate Technical Assistance to Strengthen Emergency Preparedness for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (OSRO/NEP/401/USA)" from October 2014 to September 2019. The project is implementing by Department of Livestock Services with its technical divisions.
Provide needful technical expertise to carry out tasks as envisioned in the Terms of References (TOR) under the operational supervision of the FAO Representative in Nepal and technical supervision of the Regional Animal Health Economist Coordinator based at RAP and in collaboration with the NPC and team of project national consultants.
The specialist will submit inception and end-of-assignment reports to the National Project Director (NPD) of the project and the NPD will obtain required technical clearance from the Lead Technical Officer. FAO country office will submit the final study report to the MoALD.
The specialist primarily will engage to design internal (district) and cross border (where relevant) Poultry Value Chain and Live Poultry Market Study for 7 High-risk districts (Jhapa, Sunsari, Chitwan, Kaski, Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur) with mapping.

The specialist shall have competency and demonstrated practical relevant experience in Livestock value chain, knowledge of field Epidemiology and procedures especially on HPAI and other zoonotic and emerging/re-emerging and high impact diseases.
