Job Description

Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with national CRP AAS research teams, communities and stakeholders in planning, design and implementation of research on improving productivity in aquatic agricultural systems
  • Provide scientific mentoring and advice to WorldFish and other CGIAR country teams and stakeholders in the planning, implementation and writing up of research papers and other science products
  • Develop global syntheses distilling cross-country learning on sustainable improvements in the productivity of aquatic agricultural systems
  • Assist in building productive and enabling linkages among National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS), CGIAR centers, public and private sector stakeholders to increase learning, development outcomes and impact from AAS productivity research
  • Advance the understanding of impact and roles of  aquatic agriculture systems productivity improvement in achieving CGIAR development outcomes and sustainably meeting food, nutrition and poverty reduction
  • Maintain productive relations with donors and partners to mobilize resources in support of the aquatic agriculture systems research in development agenda
  • Contribute towards capacity building in RinD approaches that integrate scaling and extension efforts, participatory action research and aquatic agriculture systems productivity research.

Essential skills and qualifications:

  • Ph.D in systems research, in either aquatic (aquaculture and/or fisheries) or agricultural systems, or a related field
  • At least 5 years research experience in aquatic or agricultural research and development in Asia and/or Africa
  • Experience of interacting with national, regional and international Research and Development practitioners and policy makers
  • Excellent knowledge of systems productivity in aquatic and/or agricultural systems
  • Excellent science and participatory action research skills, with the proven ability to produce quality science outputs
  • Excellent proficiency of spoken and written English
  • Good appreciation of theories of change, impact pathways, and gender transformative approaches
  • Willing to travel extensively

Desired skills and abilities:

  • Fieldwork experience with aquatic agricultural systems in Asia, Africa or the Pacific
  • Project development and resource mobilization skills
  • Strong professional networks in the field of AAS research
  • Strong understanding of cross-sectoral linkages of AAS with food security, nutrition and poverty reduction
  • Exposure to a research science institute or academic institution, with understanding of a Research in Development (RinD) approach
  • Experience working in a development organization
