Job Description

The role

As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Director of Program Development and Quality shares in the overall responsibility for the direction and coordination of the Country Office. The PDQ director is overall responsible for the programme development/ fundraising and quality of the programmes delivered in the country. The person also may be requested to support the Liberia project office if the need arises.

After extensive consultation with children, local stakeholders, district and national authorities the country strategy for the period 2019-21 has been finalized which is aligned with the government priorities under the New Direction. The key strategic focus for the Sierra Leone country office for the next 3 years would be:

  • Reduction in accepted violence and harmful gender discrimination; adolescent pregnancy and child, early & forced marriage
  • Inclusive access to quality reproductive, maternal, new born child health services
  • Children (especially girls) complete a quality and safe primary education and successfully transition to secondary school
  • Vulnerable women and youth have access to safe and sustainable livelihoods

As the PDQ director, you will be responsible for the aggressively fundraise to achieve our ambition for children in Sierra Leone for the next 3 years, ensuring that the country objectives contribution towards the save the children global ambition for 2030:

. survive: No child dies from preventable causes before their fifth birthday . learn: All children learn from a quality basic education . be protected: Violence against children is no longer tolerated objectives

Qualifications and experience

  • A minimum of 5 years management experience in an NGO environment, including significant field operations experience of full spectrum implementation: running both development and emergency programs
  • Significant knowledge of international humanitarian systems, institutions and donors, and of procedures, accountability frameworks and best practices in emergency management
  • Strong background in resilience programming for children
  • Master's level qualification in an appropriate technical area (social protection, education, health)
  • Substantial experience and knowledge of effective financial and budgetary control and securing and managing grants from major institutional donors
  • Solid project management skills related to organisational development projects and international, cross-functional teams with a proven history of delivering results
  • Ability to analyze information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically - ability to think laterally
  • An in-depth understanding of national and international development issues in particular in relation to children
  • Previous experience of managing and developing a team and the ability to lead, motivate and develop others
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Fluency in English
  • Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work with incoming teams in the event of major emergencies
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children's aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches

Contract length: 01 Year
