Job Description

Conservation International’s regional Asia Pacific headquarters is in Singapore and provides a vehicle for the organisation to coordinate its efforts in conservation and sustainable development throughout the 12 countries of this field division.

In addition to being a regional hub, CI has developed a stand-alone country-specific Singapore Program to raise our profile, increase our support base and further develop our fund-raising potential in-country. As such this is the most recent country program to be launched by CI in the Asia-Pacific Field Division (APFD).

The Singapore Program will benefit from the establishment of a new, local charity with Institution of Public Character (IPC) status and an independent Board of Trustees as well as having total alignment and support from all of the institutional strength and depth of CI in Singapore, Asia and the rest of the world.

The Singapore Program Manager will further design, develop and manage the expansion of the Singapore Program whilst also identifying and sharing opportunities and partnerships for the potential benefit of CI in Singapore and throughout the Asia Pacific.

The position will report to the Director of Development in the APFD and work closely with the Senior Management Team and the Board of Trustees in Singapore to ensure that the Singapore country program is designed to support activities across the following 3 core areas:

  • Education (outreach and engagement with local and international schools)
  • Science and Research (building and maintaining our partnership with local Universities, linking up with our regional and global science work)
  • Urban Sustainability (engagement of local corporations, community outreach, staff engagement, events and environmental issues of specific national importance to Singapore).

The position is responsible for development, coordination, and delivery of strategic objectives for the Singapore country program as well as to ensure its expansion and commercial success while supporting the goals and outcomes of the APFD.

S/he will manage the Education Coordinator to implement parts of the above strategy. S/he will also need to be comfortable working closely with the Senior Management Team in Singapore to identify, cultivate and manage local donors and Partners for the long term financial sustainability and fundraising success of the Program.

S/he is expected to be able to work closely with a broad array of internal and external stakeholders. S/he must be able to effectively leverage external partners (existing and prospective) to expand CI’s reach and scale of impact in Singapore and across a portfolio of regional programs and initiatives.

The Program Manager must be able to work across cultural and linguistic boundaries and address challenges with creativity and conviction. S/he is positive, proactive, self-driven, flexible and confident.

S/he is a team player with experience in developing and managing projects (preferably with a focus or interest in the education sector).

S/he would benefit from a track record of raising funds successfully and/or be familiar with the requirements related to fundraising from individuals and corporations.

Position Responsibilities:

Education

  • Manage the Education program; develop, expand, plan and implement the education program with local and international schools, contributing to the program’s strategies and objectives.
  • Manage and support the existing Education Coordinator.
  • Organize and conduct various events including talks to students, parents and teachers; workshops on key education topics; youth symposiums; and more.
  • Develop tailored content and educational material for primary and secondary school children as part of the education program. This includes worksheets, skits and talks, and content specifically targeted towards children.
  • Identify and manage opportunities for collaboration with partners (schools, community members and other stakeholder)

Science & Research

  • Explore and expand university partnerships to support the expansion of the Singapore program as well as CI’s regional reach and impact
  • Manage the local and regional internship program

Urban Sustainability

  • Community outreach
  • Staff volunteer programs and corporate team building programs
  • As well as potentially other relevant issues like water security, air quality, sustainable finance etc

Partnerships

  • Identify, develop and maintain innovative partnerships with public, private and non-profit organisations in Singapore

Relationship Management

  • Identify and steward potential donors and supporters of the Singapore Program for the benefit of CI Singapore and the APFD as a whole.
  • Work with Singapore’s Senior Management Team on activities beneficial for the CI Singapore program and the APFD

Education, experience, skills and abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Education, Development, Communications or other relevant field.
  • 7+ years of working experience in a related field.
  • Confident speaking in public (preferable with experience of communicating with primary and secondary school children)
  • Working knowledge of Singapore education system (local and international schools)
  • Track record of successfully raising funds
  • Develop and manage budgets
  • Manage staff as well as small numbers of interns and volunteers
  • Self-motivated team player
  • Excellent communicator in both verbal and written form
  • Strategic thinker and able to clearly define and articulate priorities.
  • Capacity to juggle different priorities and keeping many balls in the air
  • A passion for nature and sustainable development

Preferred

  • Knowledge of environmental science and/or
  • Experience on education curriculum and children’s’ activity development and/or
  • Understanding of the corporate sector in Singapore and/or of corporate sustainability or CSR work
