The Programme Analyst, Maternal Health substantively contributes to the effective management of UNFPA activities in Maternal Health, Cervical Cancer and broader SRHR areas including linkages with population and development and gender.The Programme Analyst, Maternal Health, under the supervision of the Maternal Health Specialist, develops, implements and monitors UNFPA’s maternal health programme, Supports integration of climate action considerations into existing maternal health and SRHR programming, under the guidance of the Chief of Health.

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with Government counterparts, NGOs and other partners, contributes substantively to the formulation and design of the maternal health and cervical cancer component of the country programme in line with Government priorities and according to UNFPA programme policies and procedures.
  • Ensures quality of programme, incorporating lessons learned, newly developed policies and best practices and establishing appropriate execution and monitoring mechanisms and systems.
  • Analyzes and interprets data on maternal health and cervical cancer, including political, social and economic environment scanning. Keeps abreast of new national and international policy developments and strategies in the relevant areas to contributes to technical inputs for national strategies and policy discussions in line with maternal health priorities and to prepares briefs and inputs for programme development, improvement and monitoring. 
  •  Expedites and coordinates programme implementation - and, where relevant, supports proposal development and donor engagement - establishing collaborative relationships with executing agencies, experts, government counterparts and other UN agencies facilitating timely and efficient delivery of results (result based approach to programming).
  • Contributes to identification of training needs and technical support for implementing partners, as needed .
  • Supports documentation of lessons learned and sharing of best practices to inform future programming 
  • Carry out any other programmatic task assigned by the Chief of Health.

Education: 

Advanced degree in public health and/or other related social science field.

Work Experience: 

  • Two years professional experience in the field of development and population activities, preferably in maternal health and / or SRHR.
  • At least one year prior experience working in the areas of climate change and its linkages with SRHR and cervical cancer prevention and management at national level.
  • At least one year experience in compiling and analyzing programme data to feed into reports.
  • Prior experience in conducting research in non-communicable diseases independently.
  • Experience working in the UN and having a good understanding of maternal health and related population and development issues in Bangladesh.
  • Ability to communicate and present UNFPA’s work on maternal health, cervical cancer and climate action vis-à-vis SRHR to local and international audience.

Languages: 

  • Fluency in English and Bangla is required.
  • Working knowledge of another UN language an asset.
