Purpose of the Position
Under the supervision and guidance of the Chief of Section, the programme assistant supports the respective section through providing a range of financial, procedural, administrative, and operational support in developing, implementing, executing and monitoring their country programme, ensuring effective and timely delivery that is consistent with UNICEF rules and regulations. Provides technical support and assistance in the preparation, monitoring and control of the Section’s budget and performance data involving several sources of funds, information gathering and analysis of data and trends.
Key Accountabilities and Duties & Tasks
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Child Protection, , performs a variety of information gathering, monitoring, technical, financial and administrative services of moderate scope and difficulty, in support of the Child Protection Programme
Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  • Monitor timely commitments and expenditures of budget to ensure accurate utilization and expenditures levels and provide regular analysis and reports using VISION for the decision on budget needs and transfers.
  • Collects information mainly from records and reports and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports on activities.
  • Organizes data and information, prepares and maintains records, documents and control plans for the monitoring of emergency response project/programme implementation.
  • Contributes to the preparation of reports, project documents and submissions to governments by providing information, preparing tables and drafting relatively routine sections. Prepares background information for use in discussions with governments and other organizations. Participates in the briefing and debriefing of project personnel.
  • Scrutinizes plans of operations, exchanges of letters and takes appropriate follow-up action. Assists in the administrative process of government requests for assistance.
  • May be required to carry out specific administrative operational/control tasks for emergency activities.
  • Performs other duties, as required.
  • The post will require some travel to all camps.

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

  • Completion of secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the work of the organization.
  • University degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Science, International Finance, Business Administrationor other relevant disciplines will be an asset.


  • A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible administrative or clerical work experience is required.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English and in the local language of the duty station required.
