Under the supervision and guidance of the supervisor, the programme associate supports the respective section (s) by carrying out a range of programme support functions to help develop, implement and monitor their country programme, ensuring effective and timely delivery that is consistent with UNICEF rules and regulations.   

 The Programme Associate works in close collaboration with a range of staff in the CO, external partners, and agency counterparts in support of programme design and delivery. S/He provides regular feedback on the status of projects through monitoring milestones and advises on improvements to keep activities on track.

Key functions, accountabilities, and related duties/tasks:

The main activities include but are not limited to:

  • To provide financial and programme management support to the Social Policy Programme of UNICEF in Syria.  The programme focuses on the delivery of large-scale social cash transfer programmes for children with disabilities and vulnerable families. Interventions are implemented in partnership with a large network of national NGOs across the country.
  • The Programme Associate plays a central role in ensuring the effective, efficient, and timely delivery of Social Policy interventions consistent with UNICEF rules and regulations.   The Programme Associate works in close collaboration with a wide range of staff in the UNICEF Damascus Office and the UNICEF Field Office in 6 Governorates, Government partners, and partners in support of programme design and delivery.  In particular, the PA closely coordinates with Financial Services Providers to ensure the smooth delivery of UNICEF cash-transfer interventions.
  • To provide regular feedback on the status of projects through monitoring milestones and advice on improvements to keep activities on track.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Completion of secondary education is the minimum level required. Higher education level is an asset.
  • A minimum of six years of professional experience, preferably in the field of Finance and Administration, is required.
  • Relevant experience in humanitarian Cash programme is preferred
  • Prior experience in programme support functions is preferred.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
