UN Women, the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women has been created to accelerate up the process of meeting the needs of women and girls across the world. As a part of the UN reform agenda, it brings together resources and mandates which will subsequently have a lasting impact on the whole community.
UN Women in Tajikistan has been working since 2010 to eliminate SGBV, address economic and social needs of women and communities, and to promote women in public participation and in peace and security. Through its Women, Peace and Security (WPS) portfolio, UN women supports the government of Tajikistan in: i) development of policies and normative framework in promotion of 1325 agenda; ii) capacity-building opportunities for government representatives, civil society partners and other experts, iii) promotion of role of women in peacebuilding and mediation, especially those in the border areas, iv) provision of gender-sensitive refugee response and v) working with communities on the ground on addressing and removing discrimination against women in peace and security.
Tajikistan has developed its National Action Plans (NAP) on 1325 for 2014-2018, 2019-2022 and currently in the process of development of its NAP for 2023-2027. Tajikistan’s NAP serves as a state mechanism for consolidated and coordinated actions to implement the global Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. Tajikistan’s most recent NAP for the period 2019-2022 is harmonized and brought in line with the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2016-2030 and the Mid-term Development Programme of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2016-2020, National Strategy on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism for 2021-2025 and is aligned with the relevant goals, targets and indicators of the nationalized Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 5, SDG 5.5, SDG 5C, SDG 16, SDG 16.3, SDG 16.7). Subsequently, UN Women in Tajikistan supports the Government of Tajikistan through partnership with Committee on Women and Family Affairs (CWFA) in the implementation, reporting, monitoring and evaluation of progress and results.
In addition, UN Women in Tajikistan works with national women’s rights organizations, emerging women-led community-based organization and independent experts in promotion of WPS agenda at national and local levels. This also entails working with civil society partners in provision of gender-sensitive refugee response, addressing harmful social norms, provision of direct support and economic empowerment.
Reporting to UN Women Tajikistan Country Programme Manager, the Programme Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the WPS portfolio which includes coordinating relationships with national partners and stakeholders, and the monitoring and reporting, and the finances and personnel of the portfolio. The Programme Coordinator contributes to the resource mobilization and expanding of the portfolio as well as programme design, formulation, implementation and evaluation. The Programme Coordinator supports the delivery of UN Women programmes by analyzing results achieved during implementation and supporting appropriate application of systems and procedures. The Programme Coordinator works in close collaboration with the programme and operations team, UN Women in Tajikistan, Regional Office and HQ staff, Government officials, multi and bi-lateral donors and civil society ensuring successful UN Women programme implementation under portfolio.
Reporting to UN Women Tajikistan Country Programme Manager, the Portfolio Coordinator will bear full responsibility for overall implementation of the planned activities under UN Women Tajikistan Annual Work Plan for enhancing capacity of partners to deliver efficient services pertinent to the portfolio objectives, support a joint work within Gender Theme Group on overcoming gender stereotypes and promotion of zero tolerance to violence against women and girls and raising public recognition on WHRs and universal commitments to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The Portfolio Coordinator will contribute to the effective management of UN Women programme by providing substantive inputs to country programme design, formulation, implementation and evaluation
