UNEP is currently leading on the implementation of the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework for GFCR and is in charge with evaluating their impact. UNEP will work on building the capacity of convening agents and partners across the whole GFCR portfolio on collecting, measuring, analyzing, and reporting on core M&E indicators. This includes social and ecological indicators relevant to coral reefs such as live coral cover, macroalgal benthic cover, and total reef fish biomass.

Responsibility:

  • Under the overall guidance of the COBSEA Coordinator, and in close coordination with the Programme Officer, Marine and Coastal Ecosystems Unit, Ecosystems Division, the Individual Contractor will support marine and coastal ecosystems proposal development with focus on coral reefs, support preparations for key meetings of COBSEA and GFCR, as well as support communication efforts of COBSEA and GFCR. The contractor is expected to complete the following.
  • Finalization of the RoK ODA Proposal on Coral Voyages for submission through GFCR.
  • Proposal development across ecosystems and habitats (coral reefs, seagrass, mangroves), demonstrating ecological connectivity and in support of GFCR indicators.
  • Support COBSEA preparations for UNEA-7, WGMCE-4 and IGM27, including enhanced collaboration with GFCR.
  • Support preparations for GFCR Executive Board meetings.
  • Support outreach and communication efforts of both COBSEA and GFCR focusing on coral reefs and other priority marine and coastal ecosystems.  

Requirements:

  • Completion of High school diploma or equivalent is required. 
  •  Additional certification or training on Arts/Design/Environmental science/Social Science, Communication, Marine Science/Management, or any related field is highly desirable. 
  • Supplemental training and certification in designing web site is desirable. 
  •  A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in environmental management, sustainable development, policy analysis, technical assistance and capacity development is required. 
  •  Experience working with government officials and other stakeholders in the East Asian Seas region is desirable. 
  •  Experience working with UNEP, GFCR, COBSEA or other Regional Seas programmes is desirable. 
  •  Prior experience working for the UN or other international/regional organization is desirable.
  • Strong analytical, research and report writing skills are required.
