Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Migration Data & Research Unit (MDRU) in Bangkok, the Project Associate (MECC Support) will support the implementation of building knowledge and capacity on the migration and climate change nexus in Thailand and South-East Asia in general.  Coordination and liaison with partners and stakeholders will be the primary focus of the successful candidate, who will also support technical assistance in data management, data collection, and research activities related to the nexus between climate change and human mobility.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with government agencies and relevant institutions. Identify and engage with government agencies, academic institutions, and technical bodies working on migration, environment, and climate change issues. Support relationship-building and coordination efforts to facilitate information exchange and collaboration for project implementation.
  • Support data collection and research implementation. Assist in the implementation and monitoring of MECC related to data collection activities (e.g., surveys, interviews, assessments) in various provinces.
  • Assist in the preparation of operations and implementation in coordination with the Head and Operations Assistant of MDRU.
  • Assist in the organization of focus group discussions (FGDs), workshops, and community consultations.
  • Support the development and dissemination of research products, presentations, and knowledge materials, including Thai and English translations where required. Ensure that findings are shared appropriately with stakeholders.
  • Provide administrative support to MDRU operations, including the preparation of service agreements, purchase orders, notes for file, etc. and coordination with relevant units, including human resources, procurement, and finance.
  • Travel to areas of operation to support field implementation, including training, monitoring, meetings and group discussions.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of MECC activities by identifying operational challenges, suggesting solutions, and supporting adaptive planning.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the Prevention of Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (PSEA).
  • Perform such duties and travels as may be assigned by the direct supervisor. 

Education:

  • University degree in social sciences, law, political science, international relations, or related field from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant experience, or High School diploma with five years of relevant experience. 
  • A specialization in climate change or environmental studies is a plus but not strictly required.
  • Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. 

Work Experience:

  • Experience in activities comparable to those outlined in the Post Description, preferably with an international or intergovernmental organization working on issues related to migration, environment and climate change in Thailand.
  • Demonstrated experience in liaising with government officials and in coordinating activities with academic institutions and government partners.
  • Experience in organizing and coordinating workshops and trainings.

  • Commitment to the PSEA.

Languages:

  • Fluency in Thai and English (oral and written) is required.
  • IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
