Regional Project Manager for Radio Ndarason International

Okapi Consulting creates dialogue between people in conflict zones or fragile states. We are leaders in two areas across Africa: research projects and innovative media, especially in geographic areas with difficult conditions inside conflict zones, fragile states and countries where freedom of expression is still only a dream. From Mbandaka to Bangui, from Mogadishu to Maiduguri, we use the radio to get this message across; a vital exercise at a time when hate messages and information abound.

Okapi's research section provides timely analyzes of the different regions in which we operate.

Radio Ndarason Internationale is an Okapi project which promotes dialogue in the Lake Chad region. With studios in N'Djamena in Chad and in Maiduguri in Nigeria, RNI broadcasts in kanouri, kanembou, boudouma and in French on shortwave, a network of FM relays, as well as on the internet. The interactive programs are designed to inform and promote discussions between all the interlocutors who share an interest in peace, stability, development and progress in the four neighboring countries of the lake.

The role of project manager for Radio Ndarason Network is based in Chad, in N'Djamena, in the headquarters of the project region. This position is a senior position that focuses on managing and strengthening RNI and Okapi operations in Chad and Nigeria. The project manager must adhere to a number of donor accounting procedures and requests and ensure that the radio works from all points of view. He or she will be responsible for overseeing finance and logistics and will be responsible for managing and supervising operational, administrative and managerial staff based in Chad and Nigeria.

Main responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the supervision and management of the accounting procedures of the Chad and Nigeria offices
  • Supervision of all aspects of the RNI project in Chad and Nigeria, including logistics, infrastructure, legal and compliance requirements, relations with the country's donors, relations with local and international organizations, and welcome government staff.
  • Physical supervision of administrative premises and RNI studios
  • Manage all donor needs in terms of reports - narrative and financial, in coordination with local staff and Okapi HQ staff
  • Manage donor relationships in coordination with Okapi HQ staff
  • Manage work plans and deliverables for administrative and management staff
  • Facilitate and ensure coordination between the studios of the network across the entire RNI network.
  • Manage all logistics related to the project

Requirements and skills sought:

  • Fluent French and English (fluency in oral and written skills would be preferred)
  • Minimum experience of ten years in project management in the human security and development sector. Experience in managing media projects would be an advantage.
  • Experience in managing multiple donors with reporting obligations
  • Experience in developing skills for administrative and managerial staff
  • Experience working in conflict-affected areas in Africa
  • Good writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with managing diverse groups of men and women from different cultural backgrounds
  • Willingness to travel very frequently
