As a Research and Campaigns Assistant you will support research and campaigning on projects related to promoting the abolition of the death penalty around the work. This will include playing a coordinating role in the preparation and production of the annual 'Death Sentences and Executions' report, as well as the collection of relevant death penalty related information and data throughout the year.  

About You:

We are looking for a candidate who has the ability to draft clearly and concisely and proofread research, campaigns and advocacy materials. The candidate will have the ability to gather human rights related information and experience coordinating projects under tight deadlines.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist Amnesty's team working on the death penalty with administrative, coordination, research and campaigning activities.
  • Assist with research activities on the death penalty including performing desk research, logging of all death penalty data, drafting, formatting, editing/proof-reading, distribution of texts and, where appropriate, coordination of translation of documents. 
  • Coordinate and contribute to the production of the annual ‘Death Sentences and Executions' report and its accompanying communication materials.
  • Develop, maintain and manage death penalty related administrative and communications systems, including setting up new systems where necessary in support of research, campaigning and advocacy activities; manage files, records and other information retrieval systems where necessary within the organization's self-servicing guidelines. 

Skills And Experience:

  • Good knowledge of issues around the death penalty. 
  • Outstanding written and verbal English is essential; in addition, the ability to work to a high professional level in French or Arabic will be an advantage.
  • Experience in research, advocacy and campaigning will be an additional advantage. 
  • Understanding of and commitment to human rights issues.
  • Experience of working collaboratively in a team and understanding of the importance of efficient communications for the coordination and effective functioning of teams, including ability to supervise volunteers.
