- BY Nicole Pelette
In 2017, the Government of Sri Lanka renewed the commitment made in 2015, to implement a comprehensive transitional justice strategy, reflected on Human Rights Council resolution 30/1 (co-sponsored by Sri Lanka). In accordance, Sri Lanka’s Peacebuilding Priority Plan (PPP) was developed in close collaboration with the Government, civil society and development partners with the purpose of embedding sustainable peace. The PPP is also aligned with the global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; specifically, with SDG 16: “Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels”. Under the overall guidance of the PPP, UN continues to extend support to the Government of Sri Lanka with innovative programming, operational design and implementation of priority actions identified in key policy frameworks and plans.
