Job Description

The research associate (RA) will be responsible for overseeing the implementation and data processing for two pilot projects with Ready-made Garments factories in the Dhaka area. The first is a nutrition project involving partnership with an online grocery business that will provide grocery delivery services to workers at the factory. The project will be an RCT testing different types of incentives for purchasing healthy food items. The second is an early career training program for potential supervisors in a separate group of factories. The two projects are small pilots and the RA will be supported by the supervision of a Program Coordinator with experience working on similar projects in factories. This is an exciting opportunity to work on pilot evaluations to inform decisions on potential project scale-ups. The RA will also assist with reports for funders, communication with funders and stakeholders, and findings dissemination.


  • Liaising with project partners, including the online grocery service company and participating factories.
  • Cleaning data, conducting basic analysis, and assist principal investigators in interpreting the data
  • Marketing the programs to factory owners and managing directors
  • Managing a team to ensure high-quality data is collected through factory surveys and factory data collection
  • Designing and fine-tuning surveys
  • Programing and testing surveys using SurveyCTO
  • Motivating, training, and assessing at least four members of direct-reporting staff
  • Managing large amounts of confidential data in accordance with protocols
  • On-the-spot decision-making regarding challenges that affect the research design
  • Communicating with partners and participating factories to allow for successful implementation
  • Communicating with the program coordinator and principal investigators on pertinent issues
  • Active self-development


The garment industry in Bangladesh contributes one-eighth of the country’s economic output and accounts for 80% of export earnings. While the industry brings substantial financial security to millions of low-income Bangladeshis, research on strategies to improve worker nutrition, skill development, and general wellbeing is needed.


  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred (degrees in Economics, Statistics, and Public Policy preferred)
  • One-year of work experience in any field required
  • Experience with data visualization and with writing research findings reports
  • Excellent organizational skills to stay on top of multiple tasks and to drive the program forward
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer proficiency (Word, Excel)
  • Experience working with Stata, SurveyCTO, and Python preferred
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given
  • Able to manage living in a dense city with poor infrastructure
  • Able to make everyone in the team work towards the common goal by building positive relationships
  • Basic understanding of research methods and randomized control trials
  • Willing to commit to 1.5 years to complete the work
  • English fluency
