Job Description

The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is working towards building a healthier India. It is helping to address the limited institutional and systems capacity in India by strengthening education and training, advancing research and technology and facilitating policy and practice in the area of Public Health. PHFI is headquartered in New Delhi with national presence through its constituent units of regional Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs) and Centers of Applied Research in core public health themes. The Foundation, established in 2006 as a public private initiative, is governed by an independent board comprising of senior government officials, eminent Indian and International academic and leaders, civil society representatives and corporate leaders.

Project Brief:

Evaluation of Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO®), an innovative model of healthcare education and delivery, was conceived as a response to the problem of inadequate access to high quality and evidence based care for under served populations. It was launched at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (UNMHHSC), US in the year 2003.This low-cost, high-impact intervention links inter-disciplinary teams located at academic medical centers and leading healthcare institutions with healthcare workers in under served areas through tele ECHO programs, where experts mentor and share their expertise via case-based learning, enabling primary care clinicians to treat patients with complex and chronic conditions locally, in their own communities. A core tenet of the ECHO model is tracking and monitoring outcomes. The goal for this evaluation is to measure the effectiveness of the ECHO model in improving access to specialty care among rural and urban community residents in India. This evaluation will not only be used to assess effectiveness but will also help in continual improvement and adjustment of ECHO’s replication strategy. With the support of a grant from the Merck Foundation in the US in 2016, the ECHO Institute at UNMHSC has commenced a three-year initiative to evaluate the efficacy of the ECHO model in India, and to establish and learn from best practices in different cultural settings. PHFI is responsible for leading the evaluation in India in partnership with ECHO India. This evaluation began on February 1, 2018 and will conclude January 31, 2021.


  • Participate in objective setting, performance management.
  • Participate in special projects to improve processes, tools, systems and organization.
  • Participate in the conduct of the research study with independently managing all analytical aspects of a project, under the guidance of the Principal Investigator.
  • Oversee data entry, perform data analysis and undertake capacity building workshop in data analysis of complex trials.
  • Assist in the preparation of new grant proposals including such that may support the department.
  • Prepare research reports and jointly author peer – reviewed publications in accordance with the aims of the research project.
  • Participate in team meetings and activities.
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with key stakeholders and other key agencies and donors as required.
  • Coordinates and prepare for meetings and special events by assisting the team members.
  • Coordinate with various vendors for various program activities.
  • Attend and participate in stakeholders meetings, and other meetings as needed.
  • Carry out activities for statistical analysis.
  • Data Entry of the participants.
  • Manage documentation of all the records related to all the project.
  • Attend and participate in stakeholders meetings, and other meetings as needed.
  • Prepare regular programme reports as per guidance of the Supervisor.
  • Any other project related duties assigned by the supervisor.


  • Essential: Masters/ Doctoral qualifications in Statistics.


  • Essential: Around 4 years of experience as a statistician in medical / social / public health research.


  • Delivering reports on time and budget, while working with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience working in Public Health and deep understanding of Public Health infrastructure in India.
  • Strong qualitative research skills and experience; experience working with qualitative analysis software’s (example NVivo, Atlas suites etc.).
  • The ability lead a team of researchers, while working closely with the research lead and other senior members of the organization.
  • Excellent working knowledge of SPSS/ STATA software.
  • In-depth understanding of probability and statistics theory.
  • Familiarity and experience with monitoring and evaluation designs for large scale program evaluation.
