The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is the world’s premier research organization dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.
Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
The Rice Breeding Platform will deliver on key priorities of the Strategic Plan in the areas of breeding for favorable environments, breeding for unfavorable environments, host plant resistance, quantitative genetics, seed and delivery systems and germplasm evaluation.
The Native Trait Discovery and Deployment group is responsible for contributing to the identification, validation and deployment of valuable new genes and QTLs, making them available in high-quality elite genomic backgrounds. This position will perform and coordinate genotyping activities related to the QTL Deployment and Line Augmentation activities within the Native Trait Discovery and Deployment group. The incumbent will be expected to perform routine molecular tasks such as DNA extraction, PCR, KASP/PACE genotyping, sampling of plants for genotyping, coordinating shipment of samples for genotyping at service providers, gel electrophoresis, scoring and recording of genotyping data under general supervision of the Scientist, as well as maintain the laboratory in good operating condition. The incumbent will also assist with storage, retrieval and shipping of seed samples, and with the testing of new marker systems. The position will be primarily laboratory-based, with substantial components in the screenhouse/glasshouse and the possibility of occasional field work.

Qualifications: Bachelor of Science graduate in a relevant discipline with at least 2 years of relevant work experience
