Job Description

In this role, you will support implementation of the Forest Economy Program (FEP)’s dialogue and research pillars, working closely and synergistically with the other program partners. You will conduct research on the climate impacts of forest products and help the FEP to gather perspectives and build consensus around the scope and nature of the climate-smart forest economy and how it can be achieved, This role requires strong vision, a strategic mindset, interpersonal skills, and extensive knowledge of the forest products sector and how forests intersect with the economy, social issues, and technology. In addition, you should thrive operating in a results-focused culture.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with relevant WRI programs, The Forests Dialogue and FEP partners to facilitate dialogues and conduct research to build understanding on the climate-smart forest economy, including determination of conditions under which usage of forest products is climate-smart, key barriers to uptake of climate-smart forest products, areas of conflicting perspectives, themes in need of further discussion and research gaps
  • Cultivate opportunities for dialogue, research, demonstration and outreach related to FEP objectives in collaboration with other WRI programs, platforms and partners
  • Support research, data collection and modelling to calculate the climate impacts of use of forest products in specific contexts
  • Produce, review, edit and ensure quality control of dialogue outputs, publications, blogs, analyses, and other written outputs consistent with WRI’s high standard of quality
  • Represent WRI and FEP to partners and stakeholders in the FEP

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience in circular economy, sustainability, the forest products sector, or urban development. Generally recognized as an expert in your field
  • Higher degree in forestry, environmental science, natural resource management or significant demonstrated experience in these or related fields
  • Excellent understanding of the science of forest growth and yield, forest product life cycle analysis and modeling
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; fluency in spoken and written English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in cross-cultural communication and engagement with diverse constituencies
  • Outstanding organization and time management skills
  • Excellent command of MS Office applications
  • Entrepreneurial mind, quick learner, free thinker, self-starting, service and detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as in a team
  • Potential to grow into the role and take the lead on projects as required
  • Willing to work in a highly demanding environment and able to juggle multiple priorities
