Job Description

Do you want to play a key role in an organisation which stands up for children? We are looking for a Senior Humanitarian Education Advisor and provide high quality technical advice and in-country support to SCUK's Education Cannot Wait-funded programmes

As Senior Humanitarian Education Advisor you will be the lead for the Education in Emergencies work across Save the Children with a chance to determine and design the scale and scope of their interventions providing direct impact and change for children. You will also provide technical and strategic guidance and in-country support for SCUK's Education Cannot Wait Multi-Year Resilience Programmes in Ethiopia, Palestine and Uganda. Supporting programme partnership and business development colleagues to identify and apply for new EiE opportunities and specifically ECW opportunities is also a key aspect of this role. In addition you will:

  •  Contribute to SCUK's Education and Humanitarian strategies and workplans, support its delivery, monitoring and review, and update this to maintain its relevance
  •  Represent SCUK on the movement-wide ECW Account (together with partnership colleagues), working closely with other SC member representatives and providing technical and strategic input
  •  Maintain a strategic overview of education related issues affecting children in humanitarian contexts, monitoring trends and in the external environment and inputting to organisational strategies
  •  Work closely with Education colleagues working in protracted and development contexts to support joined-up programming for children, communities, Save the Children's Country Offices and Ministries of Education
  •  Act as Subject Matter Adviser to a Humanitarian Surge Team Education Adviser which is managed through Save the Children's Global Humanitarian Surge Platform and coordinated within the Education in Emergencies Working Group.

To be successful you will have a strong, proven track record of developing and delivering EIE programmes in challenging humanitarian contexts. Experience of fundraising, advocacy and capacity building is essential as is an academic/professional qualification at post graduate level or equivalent in education, development or a related subject. You will also have experience of designing and delivering high quality humanitarian education programmes. In addition you will have:

  •  Strong written and verbal communication skills and be a team play with strong collaborative skills
  •  Experience of successful strategy development and implementation
  •  Strong donor engagement, proposal development, planning and budgeting skills
  •  Significant experience of organisational level thought leadership in a technical sector, specifically Education in Emergencies
  •  Understanding and practical experience of the cluster approach at country and global level.
