The Social Sustainability and Inclusion Unit in LCR addresses issues related to: social inclusion of the poor, vulnerable, and the excluded;  promoting accountable institutions;  supporting socially cohesive communities and groups; and addressing issues related to social risk management, including those covered by the World Bank’s social safeguard policies on Indigenous Peoples and Involuntary Resettlement, and by the Environmental and Social Framework (ESF). The work on inclusion of vulnerable and excluded group covers, among others, issues linked to people with disabilities, ethnic minorities, Afro-descendants, Indigenous Peoples, displaced populations, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and LGBTI/SOGI. 

Roles & Responsibility:

The Assistant’s focus will be to support the TTLs and Task Teams in their operational work and monitor the unit’s pipeline, lending and Trust Fund (TF) portfolio as well as ASA program on a regular basis. The Assistant is also closely involved in the unit’s budget monitoring. Main tasks include:

  • Support the team in project preparation, and implementation
  • Manage the information included in the Portal for projects under preparation and implementation
  • Serve as a lead ACS on operational policies and compliance requirements
  • Provide guidance to the teams in the preparation of packages for IPF projects, PforR, and DPFs
  • Provide administrative guidance and support to consultants working for the unit
  • Support the team members in complying with their travel-related and administrative duties (e.g., LARS, TRS, etc)
  • Download Project’s reports from standard reports for Pipeline, Portfolio, and ASA monitoring
  • Regularly update latest Unit’s budget monitoring report, WPA report for internal monitoring purposes
  • Respond to budget related queries from team members
  • Work closely with TTLs to monitor budget allocation for projects under preparation and implementation
  • Closely monitor Trust Fund (TF) closing dates, extension of TF closing dates
  • Work on TF preparation as team member
  • Provide mentoring to other ACS team members on operations when needed
  • Actively support the organization of events hosted by the unit (e.g., retreats, seminars, social events, etc.).

Selection Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, communication, or other relevant discipline with minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of World Bank administrative and operational procedures
  • Willingness and ability to deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Good team player, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and able to interact tactfully with people at all levels.
  • Attention to details with an appreciation for how they impact the big picture.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in portfolio matters, solid understanding of the World Bank project cycle and the World Bank country engagement model.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and multi-cultural environment
  • Strong organizational skills and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
