Responsibilities:

  • Deliver on an ambitious GH R&D funding partnership agenda with a focus on priority donor markets (EC, Germany, UK, Japan, others).
  • Manage relationships and engage with key industry partners in these key markets to forge critical co-funding partnerships
  • Mobilize specific co-funding resources with key donor and other partners to improve efficiency and quality of the GH R&D regulatory environment.
  • Support PAC team leads to increase the impact, efficiency and equity of the GH R&D ecosystem – particularly for LMICs and vulnerable populations -- by improving how GH R&D funding and policy decisions are made, through greater cohesion and accountability.
  • Support PAC team leads to ensure global and national policy pathways for health product introduction are in place and that the foundation promotes effective business models to achieve equitable access.
  • Serve as a resource for relevant teams across the foundation to ensure coordination and alignment of our global, regional and country specific work. This will include representing EMEEA at relevant meetings, working groups and task teams, as well as ensuring that our work is relevant and used by other teams at the Foundation including our advocacy and country heads.
  • Support PAC and other EMEEA country leads in consulting with grantees to achieve desired impact of grants; conducting site visits, providing technical mentorship, convening meetings, and applying and evaluating milestone-based performance objectives.
  • Prepare and write briefs synthesizing current practice and knowledge and/or recommending course of action on key topics of relevance to foundation; continue to learn and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the trends and drivers of areas above.
  • Support the Europe Director on exploring potential points of entry for the foundation in the ESG space related to the life science sector, including identifying potential partners to work with on shaping this agenda.   
  • Participate in meetings, coordinate programmatic input and write and review briefs to prepare Foundation Leadership for high-profile events.
  • This role is responsible for high quality interactions and clear and consistent communications with grantees and partners in the field.

Qualifications:

  • Strong project management experience with excellent planning, execution and analytic skills
  • Track record of working in or with the private sector, preferably pharma/biotech/life sciences, preferably with experience in the key market geographies of interest to this role
  • Experience in project and transaction execution involving multiple partners from the public and private sectors
  • Experience in developing and managing strong partnerships and relationships with senior decision makers inside and outside of an organization, managing conflicts, and building consensus.
  • Deep knowledge and analytic/technical proficiency in the field of global health R&D.
  • Demonstrate critical and creative thinking, excellent writing, business analytics and public presentation skills – all on deeply technical topics.
  • Demonstrated ability in portfolio management to create optimal investment mix to drive to a set of outcomes.
  • Proven ability to successfully shepherd issues across large institutions, various levels of staff and different cultural contexts.
  • Proven ability as a great teammate defined as someone who shares ideas generously, adjusts flexibly to changes in context, and is motivated to act with some urgency.
  • Ability to travel up to 25-30% domestically and internationally.
  • Education and Experience
  • Masters or PhD in business, science, health, government relations, or related field.
  • Extensive experience working with key players, both governments and private, in EMEEA markets.
  • R&D and product development experience in the life sciences arena and experience working in international development with low-middle-income countries (LMICs) preferred.
