  • A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline associated with agriculture and food security such as agronomy, agricultural economics, agroecology, social sciences or food sciences and a record of related research and publication in a developing region of the world.
  • A proficiency in English reading, writing and speaking.  A proficiency in French reading, writing and speaking. 
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in managing research, including technical and financial aspects, monitoring and evaluation of research performance, and reporting and/or experience in leading and conducting research projects involving multiple stakeholders. 
  • A sound knowledge of gender transformative research and its contribution to food and nutritional security. 
  • An in-dept understanding of the Canadian context and political priorities regarding international food and nutritional security and climate change.

  • A skilled communicator, competent in communicating research and research results to professional, expert, and non-expert audiences.
  • A strong contributor and team player, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders such as development organizations including multilaterals, research organizations, funding agencies, and end users.
  • A confident networker with the ability to provide specialized advice and guidance using problem-solving and negotiation skills to advance the program’s research agenda.
  • Adept at assessing capacity development needs and developing capacity strengthening programs through mentoring, supervision, and brokering expert support.

You are interested in:

  • Initiating agriculture and/or food security research via activities including knowledge dissemination and management of research seminars.
  • Working and building bridges between researchers, decision-makers, and policy actors to influence public policy and practice. 
  • Playing a leading role in the identification of research components that will contribute to improved uptake of agriculture and food security policies. 
  • Developing project initiatives geared towards the advancement of agriculture, food systems and climate change research, including their systemic relationships within a global context. 
  • Facilitating and participating in debates and research agendas relating to the sustainability of food systems in a context of climate variability.
