 The primary objective of the project which is under Programme for Emerging Infection is to strengthen Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) activities across different implementing sites, including areas with full HDSS implementations and areas using sampling strategies. In addition, the project will provide technical assistance to other sites such as data collection, data quality, meeting operations, scientific and informatics competencies, and ongoing methodological support for HDSS activities.

Brief Description of Position:

The Senior Research Investigator reporting to the Deputy Project Coordinator will be mainly responsible for performing the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Development of different tools and metrics;
  • Harmonization of data collection tools under the guidance of Demographer;
  • Critically assess HDSS data quality of different sites;
  • Rigorous scientific analysis and identify the gaps and derive meaningful inferences;
  • Proposal and manuscript writing. Conduct peer reviews of manuscripts of other researchers in order to support scientific manuscript creation while developing one’s own scientific writing abilities.
  • Create detailed project plan covering milestones, deliverables etc.;
  • Train people on data collection;
  • Develop detailed work plan and take the initiative to implement those, supervise data collection;
  • Monitor the quality of data collected,
  • Facilitate IRB approvals  
  • Coordinate with Research Administration (RA) for registering projects with government / international authorities and for securing licenses or approvals for research-related activities;
  • Conduct and facilitate training/workshops  

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Minimum Master's degree in any relevant subject preferably in Statistics from a reputed university with good academic records.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in child health projects preferably in health research and/or demographic surveillance system; Candidates who have demographic background will get preferences.
