Job Description

Organization Overview

Abt Associates is a mission-driven, global leader in research and program implementation in the fields of health, social and environmental policy, and international development. Known for its rigorous approach to solving complex challenges, Abt Associates is regularly ranked as one of the top 20 global research firms and one of the top 40 international development innovators. The company has multiple offices in the U.S. and program offices in more than 40 countries.

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

At Abt Associates, we are committed to creating a lasting culture of equity, diversity and inclusion and recognize that in order to achieve full participation, our practices must be free of prejudice, discrimination, and bias that result in inequitable outcomes. We are actively working to advance equity for everyone, and while we still have much work to do, we know that racial and cultural diversity are an asset to our business and the communities where we live and serve. Our ongoing commitment is focused on creating business practices that advance racial and social equity, investments in community impact programs for the benefit of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), and expand upon project work related to racial equity and social justice.

The Social Media Marketing and Communications Co-op position on Abt's Marketing Communications team is a unique opportunity for a creative, forward-thinking, and motivated student to conduct rewarding and impactful work for a mission-driven organization. The Co-Op will be given the freedom to think boldly and strategically, and their work will directly impact the organization's global corporate social media marketing/communications strategy. Although Abt Associates is a large global company, the co-op works within a small team in which their opinions will be valued. This is an excellent opportunity to build a portfolio of social media work.

Note: For Spring 2021, we anticipate that most, if not all, of this Co-Op’s tenure will be performed remotely. Abt offers either a virtual machine workspace or can provide an Abt-specific laptop to complete your duties. Regular meetings, check-ins, and group get-togethers are conducted via video, using Cisco Webex or Skype for Business.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Senior Social Media Specialist and MarComm/Editorial teams to create posts for Abt's corporate Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn accounts, and create graphics to accompany posts
  • Develop comprehensive social media plans for conferences, and write social media posts to promote conferences, events, webinars, panels, etc.
  • Work with Internal Communcations and HR/Talent Acquisition teams to create content about Abt's staff and culture on social media, with the goal of helping Abt's "employer brand"
  • Assist the Senior Social Media Specialist with data-driven research and analytics, keeping tabs on the current social media landscape and within Abt's areas of influence/competition
  • Assist as needed with other MarComm disciplines, including Events & Conferences, Editorial, and Digital Marketing (including the Abt Associates website and Email Marketing practices)

What We Seek

Abt (pronounced like "apt") seeks a candidate preferably enrolled in an associated (marketing, communications, business) major or program. The ideal candidate is an adept storyteller with excellent writing and communication skills, a keen eye for detail, a willingness to innovate, and an interest in social impact. The candidate must have the ability to juggle multiple deliverables; he/she/they must also work well within a small, tight-knit team atmosphere.

Note: Given the confines of working from home due to the ongoing pandemic, the candidate must also be able to blend stretches of independent work without close supervision, with good, proactive communication to keep stakeholders and other team members apprised of their workloads, successes, and needs.
