Fellowship Opportunity

IN-DEED Foundation's Digital Resource Centre

Pali (rural), Rajasthan, India

Starting Date: Starting – last week of June / early July

Duration: 12 months

IN-DEED Foundation is a registered Trust working to address challenges in the rural education sector by engaging youth volunteers and harnessing technology tools. Since its inception in May 2014, IN-DEED volunteers have been conducting programs in Jodhpur, Kota and Pali districts of Rajasthan, reaching out to more than 5000 students in dozens of villages.
With a vision to enable provision of quality education to every child in India, the Foundation runs the following programs:

  • ‘Adhyayan’ - focusing on understanding of curriculum subjects
  • ‘Sambhavna’ - extra-curricular activities, student exchange and peer-learning
  • ‘Samiksha’ - conducting regular assessments

A Digital Resource Centre (DRC) has been set up by IN-DEED at a nodal village (Rajola Kalan in Pali district, Rajasthan) equipped with computers and a smart-board for imparting digital literacy, practical computer training and IT/ MS Office skills free of cost to rural children.

To execute and run programs at the Digital Resource Centre (located 50 KM from Jodhpur; one-way travel time approx. 1 hour) the Foundation is looking for 2 Teaching Fellows who will be based at the Centre and shall be mainly responsible for conducting tasks mentioned below:

  • For pre primary and primary students (up to class V) - help achieve grade level learning in arithmetic and reading skills using audio visual tools and online resources, onsite teaching support, interactive games and role-plays
  • For upper primary students (classes VI-IX) - training on video making skills
  • For senior students (class IX and above) - promoting digital literacy, enabling hands-on practical learning of computer basics and providing MS office skills through training
  • Assessment and evaluation of students
  • Support strategy formulation, report writing and organisational development, and carry out other related tasks as assigned

Background, Skills & Experience:

  • Any graduate (advanced degree in computer science/ engineering is NOT required) with proficiency in computer basics (MS Office and basic IT skills)
  • Passion for teaching and engaging with students and communities in rural settings
  • Ability and willingness to live and travel in rural areas
  • Experience (1 or 2 years) of teaching and supporting improvement in education levels and teaching standards in government/ municipal schools is preferred, but not mandatory

Monthly stipend (comparable to other Fellowship programs run by TFI and iVolunteer) shall be provided by IN-DEED along with accommodation; suitable arrangements shall be made for daily meals.

This exciting and challenging opportunity shall involve continuous interaction with rural students, teachers, parents and community members in an effort to improve the learning levels and digital skills of beneficiary students.

IN-DEED trustees and advisory board members comprising development sector experts and senior professionals in academia and the corporate world will mentor the Fellows. They will also get a chance to interact with many Friends of IN-DEED Foundation, that include motivation experts, TEDx organisers and speakers, and undergraduate student volunteers from the top engineering institutes of Rajasthan.
