The program in the DRC:
Between 1996 and 2003, the Democratic Republic of Congo was the site of the deadliest conflict since World War II, killing 5.4 million people and leaving a country contaminated with landmines and unexploded ordnance. MAG has been working in the DRC since 2004 by neutralizing and destroying landmines and launched its first program for the management and destruction of weapons and ammunition (AMD) in DRC in 2006. We are also the only non-governmental organization in the country authorized to manage and to destroy weapons. More recently, the program in DRC ceased its mine action project, and now focuses on weapons management and weapons and ammunition destruction initiatives.
The role :
As a senior technical representative at the national level, you will be responsible for leading the work with the defense and security forces in the DRC to improve the management of weapons and ammunition held at the national level, with the aim of reducing the risk of diversion. of articles to the illicit market as well as the risk of unplanned explosions in ammunition depots. The role drives teams of national and international personnel to safely manage weapons management and destruction activities. Working in close collaboration with the Country Director and being under her responsibility, you will provide a high quality technical contribution to proposals and reports, you will work in liaison with donors, and government agencies.
Your profile :
The successful candidate will have in-depth technical knowledge in a range of AMD techniques including construction, IATG and MOSAIC. You will have the ability to bring technical knowledge to proposals and reports, as well as the ability to plan and organize. You will have excellent advocacy and negotiation skills and the ability to build the capacity of country teams and to establish and maintain productive partnerships with donors and partners. Understanding difficult security contexts is crucial. You will have excellent people management and project management skills with the ability to coordinate, design, manage and report activities simultaneously. Previous experience working in a senior technical position in a similar organization is essential. This is a demanding but very rewarding position, suitable for a flexible, highly motivated and solution-oriented Manager. A patient, delicate and diplomatic approach will be necessary in the difficult environment in which MAG works.
