The objectives of the Pacific Climate Change and Environment (PCE) team is to increase the capacity of Member States in the Pacific in climate and environmental health risk assessment and management; enhance the health sector leadership on primary prevention interventions to reduce the effect of climate change on health and to reduce the effect of environmental and occupational hazards to health through multi-sectoral cooperation and inter-country cooperation in managing climate change, environmental and occupational determinants of health.
Under the direct supervision of the Team Coordinator PCE, the incumbent will perform the following functions:
Provide technical input to the work program in the area of Climate Change, the Environment, and Health (CCE) and support the implementation of the CCE thematic priority in For the Future in Fiji;
Provide support for the preparation of the PCE workplan and budget related to CC&H project activities in Fiji and ensure that funds are utilized in a timely manner so that it does not hinder the implementation of project activities and that all project resources are used efficiently in support of the project objectives and targets of involved communities. Ensure that all project activities funded at community level are within the scope of Fiji's development plans;
Assist in developing and reviewing technical studies carried out in the project sites through field visits and consultation meetings with communities, NGOs, and local government to ensure that accurate information is collected and synthesized;
Collect data and maintain comprehensive operational information on partners, activities related to the project in Fiji including NGOs, government offices, community-based organizations and civil societies;
Provide support in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports on the status of the implementation of the project activities at local level, including technical, financial, and policy matters, highlighting challenges and proposing options to solve them;
Work closely with PCE to ensure the project activities are aligned and synergized towards achieving goals of the CCE thematic priority and For the Future as well as Fiji's national priorities; and
Perform any other duties related to the project as assigned by the supervisors.
Required Qualifications: Education:
Essential:
University degree in environmental health, public health, geography, climate change, environmental sciences/management, environmental engineering, development studies, or other fields.
Experience:
Essential:
At least two years of experience in programme or project planning and coordination in the areas of climate change, environmental health (such as WASH), or climate change and health in Fiji.
Skills:
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of climate change, biodiversity and or ecosystems issues.
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work under pressure and to establish and maintain effective work relationships with people of different cultural backgrounds.
Ability to take initiative and to work independently, as well as part of a team.
Familiarity with development projects implementation procedures and guidelines.
Capacity building skills including planning and facilitation of training courses, workshops, etc.
Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to give technical advice and guidance taking into consideration the views of multiple stakeholders and partners.
Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team, adapt to diverse education and cultural backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.
