Job Description

Max Foundation is a Dutch NGO founded in 2005 that aims to reduce child mortality and improve child health. The goal of our programme is to give children under five a healthy start in life by reducing stunting and the incidence of faecal- and water-borne diseases. Our approach focuses on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), while also integrating nutrition and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) components. Currently, we have implemented projects in Bangladesh, Nepal, and will soon expand to Ethiopia. Max Foundation, as a business-driven NGO, supports local entrepreneurs and fosters local, sustainable business models to make sure our results last. We focus on impact maximization, effectiveness, and “Max value for money” (cost-effectiveness).

Your work will focus on impact measurement of our projects in Bangladesh and Nepal. Max Foundation collects large amounts of data that is currently being underutilized. With pro-bono support from Accenture, we are developing a dashboard with key performance indicators (KPIs) to manage our programmes more effectively. You will take a lead role in this initiative, coordinating with the Accenture team. You will support the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team in Bangladesh with managing M&E data on the entire project portfolio, standardizing indicators, and developing a reporting system (Excel). Furthermore, you’ll be the first-line support for the broader priorities of the Amsterdam team. These tasks will cover assignments in areas such as business development and strategic partnership building, communications, and programme management.

Main responsibilities

  • Lead initiative to create a data visualisation platform (dashboard) with support from the Accenture team for Max Foundation’s flagship programme, Nutri-WASH
  • Coordinate with the M&E team in Bangladesh on indicator standardization, survey development, and progress monitoring
  • Monitor developments and update the knowledge base on integrated programming, child health, WASH, nutrition, SRH, and stunting through desk-based research
  • Be the point of contact for an external evaluator, KIT (Royal Tropical Institute), conducting a mid-term evaluation, impact evaluation, and baseline report
  • Draft and revise annual reports of all Max Foundation’s projects for donor submission
  • Conduct stakeholder mapping and analysis to support in brokering strategic partnerships, with a focus on the regions Ethiopia and Bangladesh

  • Strong analytic and research skills, and an affinity for data
  • Excellent oral and written English language skills
  • Strong interpersonal cross-cultural communication skills (e.g., with Bangladesh Country Office)
  • Experience with data visualization software such as Tableau / Qlik is a plus, or at least a willingness to learn
  • Ability to prioritise workload, assume responsibility for work, and follow through to completion
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with R / SPSS is considered a plus
  • Interest and knowledge of international development / public health is also an asset
  • Knowledge of theories of change, logframe measurement, and other conceptualisations is a plus

We're looking for a result-oriented student or recent graduate (at least BSc. Degree) to start at our office in Amsterdam in August/September 2019 and commit at least 4 days per week for a minimum of 6 months.

This is an exceptional opportunity to gain experience at an international NGO with an ambitious mission. You will not only gain practical experience and knowledge, you will also have the opportunity to cooperate with our partners and expand your network. You will be provided a mentor who will give you guidance throughout your internship.

We will gladly work with your institution to give you academic credit for your experience. A monthly internship stipend will be paid, or alternatively, if you are not a registered student, a monthly volunteer allowance will be paid. Daily travel costs are refunded and lunch is provided.
