Under the supervision and guidance of the Chief of Communication, this position leads on designing and implementing digital communication strategies as well as content strategies for the organization, in close collaboration with all internal as well as external stakeholders. It is accountable for managing the digital communication team, and plays a key role in supporting the organization’s fundraising, programmatic, and advocacy, as well as brand-building ambitions through compelling contents and effective digital engagement techniques utilizing social media channels and UNICEF Indonesia’s website as well as other emerging and cutting edge digital communication innovations and approaches. Duration of contract is for 1 (one) year. 

The Digital Communication Specialist will be responsible for the following functions:

  • Design and implement audience-focused digital communication strategies in support of country office objectives
  • Ensure that digital reach and engagement is an integral part of delivering UNICEF Indonesia’s organizational objectives, including for organizational positioning, fundraising, advocacy, and social and behaviour change.
  • Conduct digital performance analysis, social listening, and A/B testing to collect audience insights and identify effective audience engagement digital approaches.
  • Develop evidence-based digital communication strategies as aligned with UNICEF Indonesia’s organizational objectives, spanning brand-building, thought-leadership, partnership building, fundraising, programme goals, public and policy advocacy, etc.
  • Lead on the design and implementation/coordination of digital campaigns in support of organizational goals. Conduct testing and optimization (e.g., display ads, SEM/SEO) to achieve ambitious targets.
  • Grow UNICEF Indonesia’s online supporters and develop and work towards achieving agreed KPIs as per the strategies and workplans.
  • Innovate and continuously enhance user experience across diverse audience groups through cultivating an effective audience base and supporting building organizational brand, trust and affinity.
  • Continuously improve on UNICEF’s website user experience and content, and lead on positioning UNICEF Indonesia’s digital presence as leading portals for trusted information on matters related to children’s rights.
  • Oversee digital editorial planning, ensure quality of all contents published on UNICEF’s website and social media, and oversee effective management of UNICEF Indonesia’s external facing digital accounts.
  • Ensure effective online community management by monitoring comments, social media account inboxes, and prepare responses as necessary and take risk management action as needed, under the close guidance of the Section Chief.
  • Conceptualize, research and advise on the latest technology trends, new emerging digital platforms in the communication space, evolving user preference, best practices and benchmarks, to optimize digital supporter engagement.
  • Initiate and develop relationships within UNICEF and with external partners to produce digital products and content, including the contracting of vendors, producers or companies.

Lead on the design and implementation of a content and story-telling strategy for the organization based on organizational priorities and audience insights:

  • Conduct audience mapping research on an ongoing basis and design audience engagement strategies based on insights and data.
  • Develop a story-telling and content strategy for the organization, ensuring that the contents created for UNICEF Indonesia’s channels and audiences are purpose-driven and audience-focused, to deliver on organizational needs and requirements.
  • Coordinate in a timely and collaborative manner with programme sections and PFP teams as well as field offices to develop annual content workplans, as well as detailed quarterly production plans.
  • Assign staff and external vendors for the implementation of the content production plan in the most efficient manner while ensuring high quality and timely delivery.
  • Consistently introduce new and innovative approaches to content creation.
  • Oversee digital asset management, including maintaining up-to-date stocks of materials and an organized database structure, facilitating digital asset discovery.

Effectively manage the digital team and financial resources allocated to the unit:

  • Manage a team of digital communication experts to perform at their best, deliver agreed results and grow professionally.
  • Coordinate cross-functional planning with the Fundraising, Programme and Communication teams to deliver holistic audience experiences to grow engagement as well as income, among other organizational goals.
  • Coordinate collaboration with cross-functional teams within UNICEF Indonesia including with programmes, field offices and Operations for smooth delivery of organizational expectations related to digital communications.
  • Manage contracts with service providers and consultants to ensure smooth delivery of the digital team’s responsibilities.
  • Provide strategic vision and foster a motivating & enabling environment for the digital team to succeed.
  • Develop Digital Unit’s annual workplan & budget; and oversee implementation.
  • Identify, cultivate and establish innovative and strategic partnerships and collaboration opportunities to advance UNICEF Indonesia’s digital engagement ambitions
  • Ensure the digital team is constantly being exposed to, considers and incorporates creative and innovative approaches to digital communications and digital fundraising with ongoing testing and learning.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: Advanced university degree* in relevant subject, e.g., Digital Marketing/E-commerce, Business, Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, etc. 
  • Work Experience: at least 5 years of digital marketing experience; including web/social media, content creation/ strategy/ management, E-commerce, CRM, media planning, SEO/SEM, data analysis, UX.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience, including human resource and budget management.
  • Hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Drupal CMS, Google Analytics/Ads, Hootsuite, Meta Business Manager, Salesforce would be an asset.
  • Stays up to date on digital trends; e.g., audience behavior, e-commerce, content, UX, marketing technologies, social listening, AI.
  • Mix of private/public/nonprofit sector, agency/client-side experience & international settings is ideal.
  • Budget planning & management experience.
  • Excellent data analysis skills, with a perpetually iterative test & optimized mindset.
  • A visionary collaborator with experience leading, managing & motivating her/his own team.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
