Part-time language teachers prepare and facilitate lessons, consistently deliver high quality scheduled courses, maintain up to date learning material, and correct assignments in a timely manner.

Responsibilities  :

  •  Under the supervision of the Team Leader, Talent Development Team (TDT), the part-time language Teacher for Spanish will.
  • Plan and prepare course plans and lessons aligned with the UN Language Framework (UNLF) as well as balanced, varied and up-to-date teaching units for each assigned course.
  • implement the curricula agreed by the Team Leader (TDT); use a detailed curriculum and specified materials to prepare lesson plans.
  • adjust these plans according to circumstances and individual needs/ abilities; select/design supplementary activities; ensure lesson-to-lesson coherence.
  • design task-based activities to exploit linguistics and communicative potential of authentic resources aimed at developing skills in the three domains (personal, business and professional); differentiate explanations, expectations, tasks and materials according to individual needs/ abilities; keep abreast with new teaching methods.
  • Deliver interactive linguistic training in person or online, and manage and monitor participants learning: manage teacher-class interaction effectively; give clear instructions for individual and group work.
  • deliver linguistic training in accordance with agreed plans; monitor individual and group work accurately and thoroughly; provide effective individual feedback using various methods; use appropriate technology/software/training materials to enhance the learning experience; select appropriate combination of techniques to suit learners and learning situation.
  • Keep an updated attendance list Design/ select appropriate methods to assess learners progress; conduct and mark placement tests, (continuous and/or summative, oral and written) assessments and interviews.
  • provide feedback to learners on their progress and ways to develop their linguistic skills; apply UNLF levels to assess proficiency in the four skill areas (Listening, Reading, Spoken Production and Interaction, Written Production and Interaction); submit progress reports at the end of each term.
  • Seek general feedback/comments/suggestions from the participants; provide a short debrief/report to the Team Leader (TDT) at the end of each term on lessons learned, attendance, participant feedback, areas for improvement; indicate materials used and evaluate these materials effectively from practical and theoretical perspectives; provide continuous feedback on the effectiveness and efficiency of the language programme.
  • Prepare the learning environment: prepare and test all support devices (computer/laptop, projector, video, presentation, flip chart, white/smart board, video player, blog, chat, social media, online homework/group work, online community, handout and other materials needed for the course); f) Monitor and record students' attendance and maintain records for each instruction session.

Requirements  :

  • Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent degree) in language area studies, language teaching, applied linguistics, communication or education/pedagogy or related area is required.
  • A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of five years of experience teaching Spanish as a foreign or second language, of which three years must be recent, is required. Experience using a variety of e-learning tools, O365 and online collaboration tools to teach a second or foreign language is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Experience in working with adults in a multicultural setting is desirable.
