Under the supervision of the Communication Specialist, the Communication Associate contributes to the regional office’s communication and advocacy strategy by providing critical support in brand and editorial guidance, website management and multimedia management.

Key functions, accountabilities and related duties/tasks:

Brand and editorial guidance:

  • Provide quality assurance for regional office-produced publications and visibility materials, ensuring alignment with UNICEF style and brand guidelines.
  • Provide technical advice to regional office and country office staff on the application of UNICEF style and brand guidelines.
  • Participate in coordination mechanisms to ensure the quality of regional office-produced publications.
  • Coordinate translation, copy-editing, proofreading, graphic design and printing services for the regional Communication unit’s products.
  • Maintain and facilitate access to a database of editorial service providers for the regional office.

Website management:

  • Keep the regional office’s bilingual website updated on a daily basis and create landing pages for campaigns, initiatives and thematic areas as required.
  • Implement the regional digital strategy to increase web traffic and engagement with a focus on Search Engine Optimization.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators.
  • Provide technical support and capacity building to country offices in Drupal Content Management System (CMS).
  • Provide technical support to regional office staff and consultants trained in Drupal CMS, ensuring that published content aligns with UNICEF guidelines.
  • Manage the regional Communication unit’s internal SharePoint site.

Multimedia management:

  • Manage the regional office’s WeShare content, uploading and organizing new material and ensuring alignment with UNICEF’s technical and brand requirements.
  • Provide technical advice related to WeShare to regional office and country office staff.
  • Support regional office staff in curating multimedia selections.
  • Assist in content curation and coordinate distribution of the regional office’s bilingual quarterly newsletter.

Liaison with internal and external audiences:

  • Respond to inquiries from regional office and country office staff and from the public related to regional publications, web content and related information.
  • Manage the regional office’s generic email account and any other regional Communication Unit email accounts.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have:

  • Completion of secondary education is required, preferably supplemented by a university degree in Communication, Journalism or a related field.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience in writing and/or editing content for print and/or web is required.
  • Experience with content management systems is required.
  • Specific experience with Drupal CMS is a strong asset.
  • Experience with photo editing and/or design software is an asset.
  • Experience working with UNICEF or another United Nations agency is a strong asset.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish. Language skills in French or Portuguese are considered an asset.
