Substantive input was provided to the development of project proposals, including for fundraising purposes to ensure continuity and sustainability of results achieved under the project 'STRIVE Juvenile: Preventing and Responding to Violence against Children by Terrorist and Violent Extremist Groups.'

Responsibilities:

  • International consultant to provide support in the implementation of projects and activities in the End Violence against Children portfolio. The consultant shall undertake the following outputs:
  • Provide substantive input to the development of project proposals, including for fundraising purposes, to ensure continuity and sustainability of results achieved under the project 'STRIVE Juvenile: Preventing and Responding to Violence against Children by Terrorist and Violent Extremist Groups.'
  • Develop a range of materials—incorporating specialized knowledge on child recruitment and exploitation by terrorist groups and with a focus on national contexts—through which the achievements of the project 'STRIVE Juvenile: Preventing and Responding to Violence against Children by Terrorist and Violent Extremist Groups' can be disseminated.
  • Coordinate monitoring and evaluation for the project 'STRIVE Juvenile: Preventing and Responding to Violence against Children by Terrorist and Violent Extremist Groups,' including compilation of achievements and lessons learned.
  • Apply substantive knowledge and expertise on child recruitment and exploitation to the development of a range of materials in relation to online targeting of children by armed and criminal groups, including terrorist groups in South and Southeast Asia.
  • Provide substantive and organizational input to the establishment of a network for coordination of responses to children associated with terrorist groups.
  • Develop a range of materials—incorporating specialized knowledge on child recruitment and exploitation by terrorist groups and with a focus on national contexts—through which the achievements of the project ‘Protecting Children from Violence in Contexts of Insecurity' can be disseminated.
  • Conduct a review of promising practices in the engagement of local Iraqi communities to support the reintegration of children and young people returned from Syria with a perceived association to Da'esh, including those who have been deprived of their liberty.
  • Conduct analysis of relevant funding opportunities (public and private sector) to support mobilization of funds for UNODC’s implementation of the Strategy to End Violence Against Children 2023-2030.
  • Develop a range of materials—incorporating specialized knowledge on child recruitment and exploitation by terrorist groups and with a focus on national contexts—through which the achievements of UNODC in Iraq can be disseminated.

Requirements:

  • An advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in international relations or a related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in international cooperation and/or development is required.
  • Experience in carrying out research is required.
  • Specialist knowledge on children recruited by armed groups, including by terrorist groups, is required.
  • Experience in working with the United Nations system or a similar international organization is desirable.
  • Experience of facilitating United Nations-European Union cooperation is desirable.
