The IT Assistant will exercise his functions under the general authority of the Director of the Regional Office of UNESCO in Yaoundé, in close collaboration with the Head of the Education Sector and the coordinator of the Maison de la Paix in Burundi, and the direct supervision of the Yaoundé Office Administrator, supported by the Yaoundé IT Assistant. As such, he/she will be responsible for:

Provide technical support as part of the implementation of the Support Project for the Reform and Modernization of the Education Management Information System (SIGE);
Take charge of the platforms set up by UNSECO for the benefit of the Ministry of National Education and assist the administrators and users of the Ministry in the deployment and use of these platforms;
Assist in the diagnosis, detection, repairs and follow up on computer-related issues by users;
Ensure the proper functioning of the computer park and software, including servers, as well as the computer tools used by the Office (hardware and software); help with network administration. Regularly update knowledge and mastery of new technologies;
Assist in ensuring proper operation of office telephone lines and liaise with the telephone company;
Assist in supporting the implementation of ICT management systems and strategies: - assist in ensuring that the Office is compliant with UNESCO's IT management standards and technology environment; this will involve compliance with UNESCO standards, guidelines and procedures, in particular compliance with the appropriate level of security for the Office's computer system and data;
Provide assistance in backup and restore procedures; assist in arranging off-site storage of backups;
Supporting users (staff and others) in backing up and restoring their data and emails; as well as in the detection and elimination of viruses, and their prevention;
Searching and retrieving data from internal and external sources;
As Network IT Assistant, help troubleshoot and track network issues, connection, IT tools, etc.;

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • University or professional degree in computer science or other information technology studies or equivalent professional experience;
  • Appropriate certificate or diploma in software and application management.

Professional experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of information technology, network administration, support for the management of hardware and software platforms, telecommunications installations and applications.

Know-how and skills:

  • Knowledge of different software and tools used for correspondence, reports, charts, presentations, websites, etc. such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Typo3, etc.;
  • Proven knowledge in the IT field;
  • Ability to work in a team and take initiative and provide quality support and services in a timely manner;
  • Discretion and the ability to deal effectively and tactfully with people from different cultural backgrounds;
  • Flexibility to adjust work schedules and priorities;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Excellent listening and coaching skills;
  • High sense of professional duty, honesty and responsibility;
  • Flexible and proactive personality.

Languages:

  • Fluency in French and/or English and a good knowledge of the other language.
  • Very good command of Kirundi.
