Save the Children has been working in Malawi since 1983 and currently operates in almost all districts in Malawi. We seek to ensure that children in need are protected, healthy and nourished, educated and live in economically secure households, while helping communities mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS. We do this through programming and advocating both directly and with a range of partners and key stakeholders.

Role Purpose: responsible for supporting the delivery of the project, working with partner organizations to ensure strong accountability for political and financial nutrition commitments and contributing to the development of nutrition-related activities, policies and strategies. The Project Manager will also provide technical assistance on nutrition related issues across sectors in both development and humanitarian projects/programs. S/he will provide state-of-the-art technical inputs into the development of the content and implementation strategies for evidence-based, high impact nutrition interventions for Save the Children.

Contract Duration: 24 months

Location: Lilongwe

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Preferably a nutrition degree but a health, social sciences, crop sciences-related degree is essential.
  • Candidates with an MSc in Nutrition or Public Health or another relevant discipline are preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior nutrition technical advocacy or project management role within an NGO or similar organization is essential (candidates without this experience need not apply).
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior management or technical role within a Public health/Nutrition/Food and Nutrition security project is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition policy and practice in Malawi.
  • Strong knowledge of current global nutrition policy and practice.
  • Demonstrated experience of working with complex teams in different geographic locations.
  • Demonstrated experience of working in fast-moving and fluid professional environments with multiple competing deadlines and tasks.
  • Excellent people management and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in Chichewa and English, both oral and written.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Express.
