UNICEF has been an active partner of the Government of the Philippines and civil society in realizing the rights of every Filipino child, in line with priorities to achieve the UNICEF Strategic Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals. UNICEF efforts have been focused on the most vulnerable regions identified by the Government of the Philippines Development Plan, particularly in the regions of Visayas and Mindanao. To ensure that interventions are sustainable and scaled up, UNICEF will support primarily local government units (LGUs) as the main instruments of delivering services and building systems. The level of engagement with government institutions will take into account capacities, economies of scale and sector issues.
It has a field office in Cotabato City, the second largest city in Mindanao, southern Philippines, with some 300,000 population. It is an independent component city in the newly created Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao,(BARMM) serving as the capital of the region where the regional administrative government offices are located.
How can you make a difference?
The Child Protection (CP) Officer post will be responsible for providing technical child protection advocacy support to Child On-line Protection project (75%) and other violence against children advocacy (VAC) (25%). This job will involve developing thorough knowledge and understanding of the programme and advocacy aspects of VAC; coordination with government and NGO partners, providing strategic support for key child protection advocacy goals of the SaferKidsPH programme and other VAC advocacy initiatives as applicable.
The role also includes general communication work such as writing, editing, content generation, organizing- with the support and close coordination with the communication team - high profile visits and assisting with key advocacy events and meetings for the SaferKidsPH project. The incumbent will also be expected to lead the development and implementation of the SaferKidsPH advocacy and communications plan.For every child, a fair chance
The incumbent is expected to contribute to developing, coordinating, networking, implementing, disseminating and monitoring specific on-going Child Protection Public Advocacy plans and activities, building on and advancing current efforts, achievements. Work cross-sectorally toward strengthening partnership and alliances specifically for child protection (VAC) at the national level. Develop and update messages, products and assets for wider dissemination nationally and internationally as appropriate under the overall guidance of the Chief of Communication and Chief of CP. Strive to promote awareness, understanding, support and respect for children’s and women’s rights.
