National Project Coordinator

The IUCN is seeking to recruit a National Project Coordinator for Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) to support the implementation of the component of the project managed by IUCN in Côte d’Ivoire, in accordance with the funding agreement with the World University Service of Canada (WUSC). The NbS Coordinator will also assist the Regional NbS Specialist in the deployment of IUCN’s regional NbS strategy and contribute to efforts to promote, coordinate, and scale up Nature-Based Solutions across West and Central Africa.

Responsibilities:

  • The National Project Coordinator for Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) in Côte d’Ivoire will be responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and monitoring of all project activities within the targeted Guinean Forest landscapes, in line with the approved annual work plans.
  • The Coordinator will work in close collaboration with the national teams and consortium partners (WUSC/CECI), relevant departments of the Ministry of Environment, local governments, and other stakeholders and initiatives active in the project area.
  • A key part of the role is to maintain ongoing dialogue with administrative authorities, community leaders, and local stakeholders to ensure strong local ownership and sustainability of NbS interventions.
  • The Coordinator will also engage with other conservation partners to promote joint actions, and maintain regular communication with theForest Program coordination office in Yaoundé (Cameroon), as well as national coordinators in other participating countries and the Regional NbS Specialist.
  • The role involves fostering meaningful participation of local communities, especially women and youth, in project activities; developing Terms of Reference and supervising consultants to ensure high-quality deliverables; implementing recommendations from project leadership and the steering committee; planning quarterly and annual activities and associated budgets in collaboration with partners; and ensuring timely and effective technical and financial execution of the project.
  • The Coordinator will also be responsible for preparing technical and financial reports, contributing to performance monitoring, collaborating with regional project coordination teams, and actively participating in regional networking, knowledge-sharing, and capacity-building initiatives to represent Côte d’Ivoire effectively.

Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate should hold an advanced university degree (at least a Master's level or Bac +5) in environmental sciences, rural development, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of seven years of professional experience is required in the sustainable management of natural resources, particularly in areas related to climate change adaptation and nature-based solutions.
  • The candidate must have a strong understanding of the environmental, political, economic, and social context of environmental management in West and Central Africa, especially in Côte d’Ivoire.
  • Proven experience in technical, administrative, and financial project management is essential, along with demonstrated ability in project development, management, and fundraising.
  • The candidate must have excellent spoken and written French, as well as good working knowledge of English. Proficiency in standard office and communication software is also required.
